Support worker Katie, who is a mom of boys Riley, 11, and Xavier, 17, admitted she was ‘addicted’ to soft drinks and felt better than ever after quitting high sugar drinks.

“I was addicted to Coca-Cola, and I drank 1.5L to 2L a day. I can’t imagine what it would have done to my stomach if I had continued,” she said.

“I’m an emotional eater so if I was bored I ate, if I was happy I ate, if I was sad I ate. I just got lazy and ate when I was stressed and bored and with all the emotions.

“Literally all day, I was snacking on crisps, chocolate, cakes, whatever I could get my hands on.

Katie says that at her heaviest weight, she drank 1.5L to 2L a day and ate carbohydrate-rich foods when she was feeling emotional rather than when she was hungry.

“For dinner I ate a lot of pasta, we had pasta meals four nights a week. And my meals were as filling as my husband’s and I would go back for seconds.

“Now I don’t really eat much pasta or bread, I only eat it once a fortnight or once a month. It was such a bad lifestyle. I’m still an emotional eater, but I just choose what I eat.

“And I now drink Pepsi-Max which has zero calories, but I only have one can a day.”

Prior to embarking on her weight loss journey, Katie often felt shy and shy around social events.

She said, “I didn’t even want to go out; I didn’t want to go to birthday parties or events or even dinner with family or friends.

“I didn’t want people to look at me. I didn’t feel comfortable, I didn’t like myself, so I thought no one else would like me if I didn’t like myself.

“I just didn’t want to be outside. I wasn’t living my life at all, I was just existing at the time.

“I now want to go out, and my husband calls me a social butterfly.”

She said: “Once I told my GP I was thinking of gastric sleeve surgery, she immediately said, ‘That’s a fantastic idea, here’s your referral.’

“She was really on board, I think she was happy that I said I wanted her, and it was just about time to take that stance.

“I had tried so many diets, diet after diet, and they worked, but as soon as I stopped, I gained weight.

“If I didn’t go the surgery route, I might just see a future with health issues or an untimely death.

‘When I see before and after pictures now, I’m just shocked but so proud.

“My motivation comes from trying to be a good role model on my Instagram for others, but also showing that it won’t always be perfect.”

“Now that I’ve lost weight, I feel a lot healthier, I have a lot more energy.”
