ITV This Morning star Alison Hammond broke down in tears during Friday’s episode. Alison cried as she opened up about eating disorders on the show.

A mother has phoned worried about her 17-year-old daughter’s eating habits, telling her dying aunt Deirdre she fears her teenage daughter is overeating.

Alison said, “Obviously I got…oh, I’m getting mad.” And Dermot replied, “Yes.” Alison was supported by her co-star and Deirdre as she continued.

Alison bravely shared, “I’ve had obesity all my life. And what it is is your regulatory system is out of whack, out of whack, obviously you can’t help but want to eat all the time.

“They don’t help overweight people. That’s why so many people turn to surgery and things like that. It’s because we don’t know what to do. I’m sorry.”

Alison added: “It’s so difficult and people don’t realize. I’m so sorry.” Dermot said to him, “Thank you very much.” Deirdre then got up and went to hug Alison.

Alison said: “I was in the moment. It’s hard, when you’re fat people think you’re lazy but they don’t realize it’s a chemical imbalance. I got carried away, I felt like I was at home watching.”

Dermot O’Leary says, “You don’t have to apologize. You are an inspiration to me.”
