New Delhi | Jagran Lifestyle Desk: The proverb “Health is Wealth” holds true at every stage of life. In order to raise awareness and make people understand the importance of health, people celebrate World Health Day on April 7 every year. According to the WHO, the World Health Organization, health is fundamental to human happiness and well-being. Health encompasses not only our bodily well-being, but also the well-being of mental and social beings. When it comes to health, you need to have many fitness and diet goals, just to stay in top condition.

Every year, just to raise awareness of the importance of health and to mark the widespread contributions of our medical school, on April 7, World Health Day 2022 is celebrated. This year, the theme for the day is “Our Planet, Our Health” and it aims to direct global attention to the well-being of our planet and the humans who live on it.

Dr. Deepak Namjoshi, Medical Director of CritiCare Asia Multispecialty Hospital, says a healthy environment is essential for leading a healthy life. “Our indifference to our planet can have a cascading effect on our overall health and well-being. Over the past few years we have seen many casualties due to extreme weather events such as heat waves, floods and drought,” he said.

“We are seeing climate change impacting our health in a variety of ways, including a spike in gastrointestinal illnesses, respiratory illnesses, vector-borne diseases and zoonoses. Climate change can also lead to health issues mental illness such as depression, anxiety and dementia. We hope this theme highlights the importance of planetary well-being, which also leads to better health for billions of people around the world.”

On the occasion of this important day, here is an overview of 5 healthy eating habits that should be inculcated:

To drink a lot of water!

Water is a universal solution to most problems and the same is true here too. Drinking more water will help boost metabolism and keep the body fitter. You can set a goal to drink 8-10 glasses of water a day.

Have a good breakfast

We often notice that skipping breakfast is detrimental to academic success. When you don’t have time to sit down and enjoy your morning meal, grab a bagel, fruit, and juice. Most of these items can be easily stored in your dorm room.

Eat at your own pace

Do not rush while eating. Chew slowly and steadily and measure your food intake. Taking the time to savor your food is essential as it has a direct impact on how much food a person eats and, therefore, how much weight they gain.

Increase protein intake

Nutrients such as protein seem to have superpowers. It is considered the most satiating of the macronutrients, but it can also help a person maintain muscle mass.

Eat home-cooked meals

Homemade meals are healthy and inexpensive. You can cook and innovate new recipes. In addition, the homemade dishes are fresh. Also, remember to eat only one serving to reduce calorie intake and constantly monitor portion sizes.

Limit your sugar intake

Sugar provides calories in your diet but few other nutrients, and it contributes significantly to tooth decay. Use sparingly and consider sweetening coffee, tea, cereals and fruit with diet sweeteners instead.
