World Fruit Day was celebrated on May 3, however, the Ministry of Health and Welfare (MOHW), in partnership with the Nutrition Institute of Central America and Panama (INCAP), organized activities throughout the week to promote healthy eating habits in kindergartens and primary schools. in all the countries.
On the same day, representatives from the Department of Health and Wellness visited Santiago Juan Preschool and Bishop OP Martin RC School to promote healthy eating habits.
On May 3, World Fruit Day itself, the MOHW reminded Belizeans of the importance of including fruits and vegetables in our diet.
“On this World Fruit Day, the Nutrition Unit reminds you that fruits and vegetables contain important vitamins, minerals and plant chemicals. They prevent diseases like cancer, heart disease and diabetes,” the MOHW said in a social media post.
The MOHW went on to say that fruits help people enjoy a better life.
“If we practice eating five servings of fruits and vegetables a day, diseases such as heart disease, cancer, diabetes and obesity can be prevented,” the MOHW said.
