Doctor’s opinion

Dr. Enoch Harvoh, a medical doctor from Tamale University Hospital, urged citizens to adopt good eating habits to ensure healthy life and reduce health-related diseases.

In an interview with the Ghana News Agency in Tamale on Wednesday, he said it was important to drink plenty of water during the day and less at night, adding that one should not drink more than two cups of coffee per day.

Adults 40 and older should drink less milk, add lemon or lime juice to their tea if there are no contraindications like stomach or duodenal ulcers.

He advised citizens to eat less fatty foods and more vegetables and fruits to improve their health.

Dr Harvoh said the best times to sleep were between 2000 and 0600, adding that adults should eat little or nothing after 1700 or 1800.

People should also avoid taking medicine with cold water, and should take medicine half an hour before going to bed.

“As you get older, get used to drinking room temperature water and avoid drinking cold water. Aim to get at least eight hours of sleep a day,” he added.
